GEOTAB is not restricted to
certain areas covered by cellular or other real time systems.
GEOTAB will track your vehicle anywhere on earth through use of the
Global Positioning System (GPS). Geotab uses a key to transfer the
data from the vehicle unit to the PC.

GEOTAB makes use of the best components available today. The
microelectronics have no moving parts and unlike other older
technology, they won't wear out. The system has been carefully
engineered for the demanding environment inside vehicles, like
extreme heat, cold and electrical noise.
How GeoTab Works
Vehicle Units and driver keys are programmed to suit the vehicle
fleet.
When a driver enters the vehicle, the driver inserts their Touch
Key into the Touch Key Housing. Drivers may operate only vehicles
to which they are designated. If the driver is not designated to
operate the vehicle, the vehicle will not start. If the driver is a
designated driver, the vehicle is allowed to start and GeoTab
begins logging driver data.
GeoTab continuously logs the vehicle's location, direction, speed,
engine revving, stops, time, driving distance and much more. The
ON/OFF status of three additional auxillary inputs is also logged.
The auxillary inputs can be wired to log the ON/OFF status of
devices such as beacons, headlights, hazards, safety devices and
more.
At the end of the trip, the logged driver data is transferred from
the Vehicle Unit to the Touch Key,and the Touch Key is then
removed. The driver may now insert the Touch Key into the
Downloader at a central download station.
The data is now stored on the PC connected to the Downloader, and
can be analyzed by supervisors using GeoTab software. The
supervisor is able to view any aspect of driver(s) and/or
vehicle(s) behaviour and usage via a comprehensive and detailed set
of reports which GeoTab can generate.
